LOUIS WINNER: Family law encompasses a number of different areas. These include divorce, property valuation, maintenance or alimony, child custody, sometimes relocation, child support and business valuations.

It's important to get an accurate value of a business in order to determine how much you will have to pay or how much you may receive from the value of that business.

In a number of cases, I've had to perform forensic accounting and search for hidden assets. My background in litigation and in finding hidden assets has been very helpful in applying it to divorce cases. The benefit to the client is I'm able to help that client find assets a client wouldn't otherwise know exist.

I think the attorney you choose is a very important decision in someone's life. You need to find someone you're comfortable with, someone who's going to be aggressive and someone who's really going to care about your case.

I believe it's very important to be reasonable when you first approach a case. Once the other side rejects a reasonable offer, I think it's important to be able to position the case in a very aggressive manner so a client's best interests are protected.
